Packaged Ice Melt
Russo Salt Supply offers a wide variety of deicing material to suit any professional's needs. Whether you require a blend, a liquid deicer, or an eco-friendly product, Russo has the product selection for any job.
Packaged Ice Melt Options:
Sodium Chloride (NaCl): Also called rock salt, this is one of the most abundant chemical compounds found on the earth. It will melt snow and ice effectively at temperatures down to 16 degrees.
Magnesium Chloride (MgCl2): Considered a premium deicer because of its effectiveness, Magnesium Chloride has grown in popularity to its low environmental impact. It will melt snow and ice effectively down to -13F.
Calcium Chloride (CaCl2): Another naturally occurring chloride, calcium chloride is the most recognized premium deicer because it has been widely used in the US for over 100 years. Like salt, calcium can be messy when it’s tracked in, and its toxicity is the highest of all chloride-based deicers. This powerful deicer melts ice down at temperatures scraping -25F.
Potassium Chloride (KCl): Potassium chloride is recognized as one of the more environmentally friendly deicers, a big plus for some clients. This material is less effective in cold weather, melting ice down to +25F.
Acetates: Most commonly found in three forms, sodium acetate, calcium magnesium acetate, and potassium acetate. Acetate deicers are organic chemical compounds that break down naturally in the environment. They protect surfaces and structures from damage, due to their lack of chlorides. Acetates are commonly used on structural concrete, parking garages, and airports where chlorides are banned due to the corrosion potential.
Others: There are a vast amount of products but only represent a very small portion of the market: Urea, ammonium sulfate, glycols, and formates are the most common.
Russo Salt Supply
Overall, each ice melt type works well enough on its own, but with the right combinations of these products in the correct portions, you can form synergies that are very effective. Russo’s inventory of bulk and packaged ice melt material is the largest of any distributor in the greater Chicagoland market.
Whatever material you will need for the winter season, the best choice is to buy it early and buy it from Russo.
